The highly anticipated Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is set to open this year, ushering in a new era of regional travel.
Situated just outside Delhi, NIA aims to make popular tourist destinations like Agra and Mathura more accessible and affordable. Starting in April, daily domestic and international flights will begin operating, with one runway, 10 aerobridges, and 25 parking stands in place.
NIA, a confluence of Swiss efficiency and Indian hospitality, is envisioned to become India’s leading airport in terms of customer-service, outstanding efficiency, digital services and commitment to the minimal environmental impact. NIA will provide a modern and seamless passenger experience as well as a broad range of commercial offerings for families with children, elderly travellers as well as the travelling business community.
“We are working towards building a truly exceptional passenger experience, seamlessly blending the warmth of Indian hospitality and design with Swiss technology and efficiency,” said Kiran Jain, Chief Operating Officer at Noida International Airport (a Zurich Airport Group Company).
Integrating design and technology
Inspired by India’s rich architectural heritage, the passenger terminal will showcase intricate lattice screens and grand flights of steps reminiscent of the iconic ghats of Varanasi and Haridwar.
“Our commitment to excellence extends beyond aesthetics. A cutting-edge digital platform will provide passengers with a seamless, personalised experience across all touchpoints, offering real-time information on flights, wayfinding, dining options, and more,” Jain said.
The digital airport environment will provide a plug & play environment for airlines to maximise passenger experience, minimise cost for the airline, and provide overall cost and operational efficiency.
“We will also implement the full potential of digital possibilities to create insights, build data-based products, and enable data-driven decision-making which will benefit the passengers as well as the airline partners,” Jain added.
Advanced security and commitment to sustainability
The implementation of advanced security measures underpins NIA’s commitment to providing a world-class airport experience. “As we move ahead, we will continuously invest in innovative solutions that enhance the overall travel experience for our passengers,” Jain said.
Sustainability has been an important consideration for airport design from the outset and some of the key criteria based on which NIA has selected the airport’s planning and design teams, construction partners, and concessionaires.
The passenger terminal itself is a testament to NIA’s commitment. Passive design elements, such as natural lighting, ventilation, and glare protection, will create a comfortable and eco-friendly environment, reducing carbon footprint and energy consumption while enhancing the passenger experience.
Recently, Noida International Airport has joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. This further strengthens the airport’s commitment to building a world-class hub that operates with sustainability at its core.
Jain added, “We recognise the diverse needs of our future passengers and are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible environment for everyone. Accessibility is paramount at NIA. We’re adhering to the highest standards of universal design, ensuring the airport is accessible to the specially-abled and elderly travellers.”
In a nutshell, inclusivity is not just a design feature, but a core value that will define NIA.
